We continued our good early start to winter with some snowshoeing near Berthoud Pass and snowboarding at Loveland in December.
This was actually my first time snowshoeing. It was tough (like hiking, but harder), but beautiful. We paused at the top to make some hot chocolate.
You can see the snow was coming down pretty heavily at times.
Loveland ski resort (www.skiloveland.com) is kind of like a locals' place. It isn't too far from Denver, so lots of people just drive up for the day. There isn't a huge base area. There are no hotels or condos, and not much apres-ski activity going on there. Just pure snowriding.
Jaco strapping in for a run.
The next couple of shots are not great (they are through the car windshield), but I had to take them. We got (or at least the mountains got) a ton of snow and it just looked surreal... like those flocked trees you see in Christmas decorations. And of course, you've got to love that blue sky and Colorado sunshine!

Crested Butte
I know this is SO long ago, but I wanted to share pictures nonetheless! In November, for our third anniversary (yes, time flies), Jaco & I went to Crested Butte for a long weekend. It is about 4 hours from Denver, and Crested Butte Mountain Resort (www.skicb.com) actually offered FREE skiing/riding from late November through mid-December. So we decided we should take advantage of that offer!
And this, this is what you get when you ski/ride in November. A few trails worth of lovely man-made snow. At least we got what we paid for. :)
This is the view from the deck where we had our mid-morning coffee.
We stayed in some really cute and nice cabins with no telephones, internet, or TV. We did have radio, board games, heat and a kitchen. It was great! We highly recommend this place if you are ever in the area (www.pioneerguestcabins.com).
