Technology!

So, I am always amazed by the cool technology that is out there and the way the internet connects us all. I still don't have a myspace page, but I have recently become addicted to facebook. If you are there (www.Facebook.com), add me as a friend! (Alexsis Venter)

Here are some of the other sites I am signed up to and other ways to contact me.

www.goodreads.com
User name: Alexsis
This is a pretty cool site. I have heard of another one called Shelfari, but I had already signed up to this one. You can see what your friends are reading/have read and get recommendations and feedback on books.

Where Are You Now (www.wayn.com)
User name: Alexsis
I am signed up here, but don't use it often.

www.Snowboard.com
User name: ridegirl79
Again, I am signed up here, but don't use it often.

If any of you are into IMing, I recommend a program called Trillian. (Check it out at http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/) It can manage all of your different handles. Here are mine:

Adios for now!

Snow

We knew it was coming. We just didn't know when...

The mountains have gotten snow and two resorts are already open.

But in Denver yesterday it was 77 degrees F and we went for a walk in the park. This morning we woke up to this:

Church downtown

You could barely even see the Wells Fargo building which is just a few blocks away.

We're making pumpkin pies today and will drink some hot cocoa in honor of all friends and family in warmer locations. :)

Cocoa Beach, Florida

In August, Jaco & I were able to get away for a week to hang out in Florida with my parents & Papa. Since it was Jaco's first time in Florida we did some of the traditional touristy stuff and also some things neither of us had done before.

It is tradition that Papa buys everyone ice cream one night.

The view southward from the Cocoa Beach pier.

Jaco & his skimboard. Entertainment time: 10 minutes

Cycling on the beach

Breakfast on the pier to celebrate Mom & Dad's 30th Anniversary

Cocoa Beach has this nature preserve with lots of cool birds and mangrove trees. We took an evening kayak tour here.

We went windsurfing. I could balance alright, but the steering didn't go so well for me...

Papa!

Jaco & Dad went on a morning fishing trip...

Jaco threw his fish back, and Dad's ended here.

Hanging out indoors.

Airboat ride

We went to the Kennedy Space Center and it was pretty cool. I remember exactly where I was when the Challenger blew up in 1986. Here's a pic of part of the memorial:

This building is where they build stuff to add to the International Space Station.

We had fun the first couple of days at Uncle Terry's house near Tampa.

We rented surfboards for a day and Jaco made much more progress than I did! See!

So yeah, we had a great time. I figured I had better post these before I post snow pictures!

July

Hi all,

I'm "back" (from nowhere in particular) to post some more photos.

July treated us well and the two things that stand out most are:

1. Our friends' visit from St. Louis, and
2. Going to Cirque du Soleil!

Jessica & Aaron came out for their summer vacation and we were able to spend a few days with them in the Estes Park area and in Denver.

In Denver, we stopped by the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and watched the "Australia's Swaypole" act. Very interesting. They kind of act/dance up on these tall "swaypoles."

Jaco bought us tickets for Cirque du Soleil for my birthday. We had both been wanting to go for a while, so we were pretty excited. It was awesome. We highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't yet seen it. The production they did in Denver was called Corteo. The mix of amazing acrobatics and music & costumes was great.

More coming soon!

ALPACAS

Hello All,

For those of you unfamiliar with Alpacas, here's a link for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpaca

Basically what you need to know is that they come from South America, they are smaller than llamas, their hair is used to make awesome yarn, and they are SO CUTE!!!

My mom retired from teaching this year and came out to visit a couple of weeks ago. During her visit, we went to an alpaca farm just about an hour northeast of Denver. Here are some photos.

And finally, a short video (without audio, sorry).
